|

I need to be able to access the postfix mailboxes on my server and manage them on a per-message basis. I deal with large volumes of mail and I often find the need to delete, say, all messages with a certain subject, or all messages from before a certain date, etc. so as to clean up a box and make room.
The key feature though, is I need somthing that doesn't download all the mail first. Theres too much of it. Im looking for a simple tool that I can give instructions too that will go to the mailbox and clean it up., and not try to access every single message first and list them. Command line tool preferred.
If anyone knows of a tool for this, please let me know! Thanks. |

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you don't want the tool to download all the mail first. If you're running the tool on the server, then there is no downloading.
My first suggestion, though, would be to use maildir format instead of mbox. It will make it easier to manage things on a per message basis like you want to. If your mail is remote like you seem to be implying, however, this will make no difference. Anyway, running everything through procmail could do what you want (run it through now or as it comes in) or just write a perl script to scan when you like. _________________ "Blessed is he who finds happiness in his own foolishness, for he will always be happy". |

Well, the perl script is certainly a possibility, but I was hoping to find somthing already written.
Really, what I want is very simple. I want a tool that will allow me to quickly and easily modify the contents of mailboxes. I can do it with the postfix module in webmin, but its too limited. You have to display a list of the messages you want to delete before you can actually delete them, and when its over eight thousand messages, its annoying.
Thanks for the reply! |
