I'm running a dual-head setup with nVidia's TwinView, using Gnome and Metacity. What I'd like to be able to do is move windows from one screen to another with a keystroke. Under M$ Windows, I use Ultramon for this. Support for this is obviously not in Metacity, but I was wondering if any other window managers support this. If not, I'll probably add it to Metacity, but why work when you don't have to?

Look at this article which mentions a application called Brightside which enhance Metacity. Devilspie is another one.

I went ahead and added support for this in Metacity. If anyone is interested in the code, let me know.

Thanks, maKKus, for the pointer to Brightside. The absence of edge flipping has been my primary complaint with Metacity for some time, so a huge thank you to ecatmur, who provided Brightside!

joshn_454, what did you add to Metacity, exactly? I would certainly be interested in the code.

While I'm stuck with resolution problems on my laptop I can't use fvwm, so I'm using Metacity, and I'm missing one thing (okay, lots of them) to make me happy: edge flipping works, but if I put a terminal (or any window) across an edge, it shows up only in it's original workspace (not half in one space and half in the other). That is, the workspaces don't behave at all "virtually" as in fvwm. Does anyone have a work-around for this?

I did at one point try a virtual resolution in the xconfiguration, but rather than flipping there is an extremely irritating scrolling behavior at the edges.

Thanks!
