So I've got a Samsung ML-1450 hooked up to my gentoo system running kernel 2.4.26 r3, and I believe that I've got it working with CUPS and the pxlmono ppd (at least the test page prints out fine). I've also enabled the lines in mime.type and mime.convs and mime.types that allow for octet-streaming.

I've got Samba running ok, such that my Windows XP boxes can see the system, the directories that are shared, and the printer.

However, when I try to print from my Windows XP boxes, I get pages of not-what-I-wanted. This is in addition to the error message on the Windows Print Manager saying that access was denied, but I gather that this message doesn't mean too much.

Any ideas? Is it a Samba issue? Or that CUPS and the Windows boxes are using different drivers for the printer (pxlmono for the gentoo system, the samsung ML-1450 driver for the win boxes)? Or what?

Apparently I needed to use lpadmin and not define a PPD in order to get the raw output to work.

lpadmin -p printername -E -v usb:/dev/usb/lp0

Finally! whew.
