j/k .

did anyone ever get photoshop to work on linux?

besides wine, which i haven't gotten to work yet.
if you got it to work on wine, can you please list the steps you took to have it work, and version?

is there a program like vmware, that emulates a windows session, so i can run photoshop or flash?

i got my gentoo to work flawlessly, perfect and beautiful, but i'm a professional web designer, and so i can run gentoo to look cool and play music or movies, then reboot, and switch to winXP to run flash or photoshop... its not happening. just isn't very productive or practical.

theGIMP is ok, but its no photoshop, blueFish however is a very good dreamweaver replacement, i've been building sites with notepad for years anyway.

I would even go as far as buying another Photoshop that is made for linux and works great if there is such a thing.

can someone please help me out, windows sux!
i can't stand it. i only need the programs it can run.

From what I understand, ir works quite well through CrossOver/WINE. Though, you could also try it through Netraverse's Win4Lin kernel things...

I have crossover office and it works flawlessly under it, at least as far as I can tell.

John, just to satiate my own curiosity: why are you still using a 2.4 rather than 2.6 kernel?

I had it running within a few days of using Mandrake. I don't have any screenshots of it anymore though. However, I have no need for it since the GIMP irons out the problems that Photoshop gave me and has more filters and such so I don't even have Wine emerged. All I did to get it working was install it through Wine.

hey i really did get photoshop to work, and all this time i've been just using my winXP partitions to try to run programs, but when you install it into 'fake_windows' it works quite well. almost perfect. i'm going to try that with all my software now, see how they go... ps7 illustrator9 illustrator10 3dsMaX5 macromedia studioMX and 2004.

StudioMX should work fine. However, I highly recommend using Blender instead of 3DSMax since it's Linux native, free, and equally as good if not better.

StudioMX doesn't work :(
i tried using the already installed version on my other partition. then installing it to that partition, and also installing it to linux partition. all errors out.
i even try installing individual programs, instead of the whole studio. still no work.
how did you get it to work?
i'm no wine expert, but did you have to copy your own dlls or something to your fake wine directory?

Me neither but i heard that its the best to link ur real Windows
directory as fake windows in wine .. U can also copy ur Windows dir to ur wine directory if u have enought HD-Space. Then u have all dlls i guess.

Wine is hit or miss. Many apps cannot be run, so do not be surprised if most of your attempts fail. Other apps are extremely well supported.

Check out www.winehq.com, and read on. They have an application compatibility database there that you may find useful.

I have also Photoshop working fine (with luck). Evrything seems OK except one thing. Toolbar, navigation panel and other panels are Always on top and on All desktops. That it isn's so good. You can see this on this image

Have anybody some idea how to fix this?

What do you base this on? I've used both extensively, and 3DSMax stomps Blender in a lot of areas (mapping, plugins, export filters, physics, etc.).

That said, Blender is still an excellent app, and well worth the learning if you're short on cash, have time to burn, and need something free, since you can still churn out some amazing stuff with that app. However, if you're a rich bastard you ought to slap down the cash for the Linux version of Maya. =)

Photoshop has been working great since that announcement on Slashdot that Disney was laying down some cash for the Codeweaver guys to make it compatible.

What I really wish is that they focused a little more of their time on ImageReady too. Still feels very slow and quirky compared to Photoshop.

Did you mean desktop for Wine or desktop in KDE? I changed it in configuration file of wine, but it doesn't work. May be I am noob :-)

desktop for wine. You can set one specifically for Photoshop to run in a desktop.

I got Photoshop 6 and ImageReady installed via wine, which gave no problem.
Image ready starts perfect, it works great. But Photoshop starts loading, but at the moment the toolbars should appear (just after 'Initializing Tools ...') it crashes and i get this message in my shell:
Code:

X Error of failed request:  BadClass, invalid event class
Major opcode of failed request:  146 (XInputExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request:  6 (X_SelectExtensionEvent)
Serial number of failed request:  1046
Current serial number in output stream:  1051

Can anyone help me here? i got xfree 4.4.0 because 4.3.0 won't work correctly on my ATI Mobility Radion 9700 and 1920x1200 screen... (if anyone knows how i can get DRI working, this should be great, but the ATI-drivers don't support the mobility 9700 yet it seems....)
