hey, when i run this command as root it gives me one list of packages it wants to install and when i run as a regular user (i know it won't install, but i'm just doing a pretend) it gives me a different list. is there a reason that the different users would give me different results?
this shows up as a regular user:
Code: |
[ebuild N ] x11-base/xfree-4.3.0-r6
[ebuild N ] sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.4.26-r6
[ebuild N ] media-sound/alsa-headers-1.0.5a
[ebuild N ] media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.5a
|
and nothing comes up as root, as it should because i just updated everything. aslo, i use gentoo-dev-sources, and i just switched to xorg....so why would xfree and the regular gentoo-sources come up? _________________ Spiral out. Keep going... |

Do you have any portage related environment variables set in your root login? I'm thinking along the lines of USE flags. _________________ Underwater photo gallery

[EDIT]
Especially if 2.4.26 is your running kernel.

X is installed, i use xorg, not xfree....my sound works....and my kernel is 2.6.7...so this is a really weird list of packages it wants to install. _________________ Spiral out. Keep going... |

check permissions for /var/cache/edb/virtuals, /var/cache/edb/world and /etc/portage/package.* |
