|
|
I've searched some on the forum on this topic but what I'm not absolutely clear on is if you can't setup 2 monitors (a TV being one) to use twinview and 2 different resolutions (screen would be 1024 and TV would be 800).
I don't want to load different config files when I'm gonna watch TV-out, I just want it to be switched on constantly. Is this possible? I've only seen examples where one screen (monitor or TV) at the time has been configured.
I'm using a Geforce 2 MX (soon to be a Geforce 4 Ti42000), both have real twinview technology.
Help would be highly appreciated! |

I've done something similar to this, but I don't think it's what you're after. Basically, you'll get one resolution on your monitor (say 1024x768). In your Twinview config, you'll set up a resolution for the TV (of say 800 x 600).
The TV will then show an 800x600 portion of the monitor output, which scrolls around with the mouse (similar to X's normal virtual desktop).
When I want to watch, say a movie on TV-out, I do exactly what you say you don't want to, and use a different config file, to set up the monitor and TV to 800x600. |

So, if I'm forced to use two different config files, how do I switch between them in an easy way when I'm in KDE? I friend of mine says that I need a script that copies either a TV-on or TV-off config file to XF86config and then restart using "ctrl-alt-backspace". Isn't there a less ugly way? |

I use twinview to have both my tv and monitor running from my ti4200. Basically you set option Twinview to true. I use Twinview clone mode, meaning my tv displays exactly what my monitor is displaying.
In the metamodes you can specify "1024x768,800x600" for your resolution for CRT and TV.
I can post my XF86Config file later if that will help (I'm at work right now).
cheers,

that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, could you post the relevant parts of your config? Many thanks |
