http://geki.ath.cx/index.php/OpenOffice - overlay on my homepage
http://planet.go-oo.org/ - news/issues

howto hack, patch failed, re-configure openoffice build ... and then continue the build
http://geki.ath.cx/index.php/OpenOffice#Hack_openoffice_build

it is just insane to restart from scratch usually.
ask me for a patch. or what configure flag to tweak. or ...
but, please, do not start from scratch!

hm, using internal build of mozilla. worked with m106.

Excuse me, so, what have I to do :D ? Enable internal mozilla?

find /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-1.9.108/work/src680-m108/ -type f -name ldap.h

Code:

/var/tmp/portage/openoffice-1.9.108/work/src680-m108/curl/unxlngi6.pro/misc/build/curl-7.12.2/lib/ldap.h

Do I try enabling "curl" in my useflags?

EDIT: ok geki :D ! I tried to build it with your cflags, your cxxflags... and now with your useflags too! And if it still doesn't compile... I'll try without my ldflags   ! I will win!!! ;)

Good news everyone!!! :D
For the first time ever, I have succeeded in compiling OO2 with geki's ebuild!
First of all, I want to thank him for his patient enormous effort to make it happen!

I used the m108 ebuild of
Code:
230080 Jun 14 22:59 openoffice-1.9.108.tar.bz2

What I did after the 2nd of June was....kept ccache disabled, deleted all the files under local openoffice portage tree and waited for m108 ebuild, which I think is quite successful!
I also followed Bonkie's recipe (p.34), even leveling up the optimization flag in gcc from -O2 to -O3 and dropping -fomit-frame-pointer option. The only differences from his are...gcc version and architechture, which are 3.4.4 and pentium4 in my case.

Code:
# emerge -pv openoffice
[ebuild   R   ] app-office/openoffice-1.9.108  +berkdb -boost +crystal-images +cups +curl -debug +firefox -gcj -gnome -icu -industrial-images +java +jpeg -kde +ldap -mozilla -nas +neon -nobinfilter -nomoz -nosound +nptl -portaudio +python -sablot -sndfile -wpd +xml2 +zlib 0 kB [1]

Total size of downloads: 0 kB
Portage overlays:
 [1] /usr/local/portage

Please refer to my report of "emerge info" in page 24 for comparison.

[Mode StoryTeller ON]
When Mr Thrain of Gentoo Forums announced that he would shortly be emerging geki's ebuild for openoffice's sources, there was much (???) talk and excitement in his house.
Thrain was very unlucky with that ebuild, and for two weeks he tried getting it to work. After many, many, too many errors, mistakes on configurations, and other exciting (???) adventures, finally he could celebrate his great, grand, fantastic victory! He won!
[Mode StoryTeller OFF]

Thank you geki for your ebuild and all your work ;) !

Does this have an influence on the speed of the program?

I'm not able to try again to build OOo until after the weekend; but I hope there will be some good news from the amd64 front too...

I don't know, because this is the first time I emerge OOo... but it start in 15-20 second the first time, and in ~3 seconds normally ;) .

ccache is no problem ... yet ...
-O3 is replaced by -O2 within ebuild.
no need to drop -fomit-frame-pointer. the broken part disables this flag.
use any supported Java you want.

Thrain, fine :D

btw, i found out why gcj jawt was not there. ha ha. USE="gtk" was missing for gcc merge. damn thing.

overlay updated added cws sb32, Description: Broken unxlngi C++-UNO bridge with old GCC 3.3 compilers, plus a little Thai text encoding patch.

may be this cws fixes that Java VM error. anyone up for a test-compile? thanks!

Split off the bulk of the thread to OpenOffice.org 2.0 overlay archive.

I changed my useflags so I used geki's one (you can put them in /etc/portage/package.use) ;) !

geki:
thanks for all your comments.

wow! we used up the previous thread!!! 8O

now i am compiling m108 on my notebook for the third time recently after getting errors due to:
1) mozilla-firefox was not recompiled with ssl flag and was not patched for that
2) some java errors with sun-jdk-1.5.0.03 (changing now to blackdown-jdk-1.4.2.02).

see you tomorrow!!! :D

Only issue I'm having is at runtime it complains about /home/bmoon/writer/ not existing, however if I create the directory it then complains about it already being there. Anyone seen that error before?

[Edit:] ...and that's because I'm an idiot and was trying to run oofice writer rather than oofice -writer. My bad.

I'm testing on amd64; got a failure with the flags (c, c++, ld) from Thrain.

I noticed that I should test without any flags, so now that's what I'm doing... (Not even a march=k8 or a pipe... 8O ) Shall keep you posted 8)

-march & -pipe may work but anything higher than -O0 will fail surely. may you check if it takes any flags from make.conf, please. thanks!

How do I do that? I created three 'flags'-files in /etc/portage with "app-office/openoffice" without flags in it. I thought this overrides the make.conf...

I have the impression it's taking longer to compile, so I guess that should be ok?
