Hi,
During the boot process, the machine shows something like that:
"PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 4 of device 0000:00:02.1"
Anybody can tell me reason of this message?
Theres no problem with the system...everything runs perfectly, but this message sounds bad.
Any help will be thankful |

Is this during the autodetect phase of the LiveCD or when booting a configured Gentoo installation ?
It may be merely a message that the BIOS's PnP detection is slightly different from what Linux thinks of it, or maybe the PCI card reports a resource range that it doesn't actually use - quite a few possibilities.
As long as there are no actual errors I wouldn't worry overmuch - PCI detection can be pretty convoluted at times.
If you're using the nvidia-kernel drivers it may be related to this:

Hello,
First, thanks a lot.
Second, sorry me. I didnt give you all information. I try to explain here.
This message is shown when the installed system boots up. Not when the LiveCD is booting.
I have a Radeon graphic card, not a Nvidia.
Also I recive the next message during the boot:
"mtrr: no MTRR for f0000000, 10000000 found"
I have supposed that this message could be generated by an incorrect instalation of the ATI drivers, maybe. I dont know.
Thanks a lot again. |

No, the mtrr message is processor-related (Memory Type Range Registers, to be exact - I'm pretty sure you didn't want to know that )
As for the PCI error message, if you Google for it you will find quite a few occurences but very few actual explanations - so maybe it's best to ignore it if your system behaves normally... _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /
