As root I type in the console:
It starts checking for dependencies and start installing, at some point the OS thies to get internet conection to install additional packages, but the issue here is that I haven's setup my internet conection
I have an ADSL connection and when I type
the bash returns saying that command not found, As I opted for genkernel, I start thinking that pppoe was not enabled in kernel, so I recompiled it with pppoe support, but bash still complains about command not found.
Is there a way of making the OS install xfree without trying to get internet access? Why adsl-setup is not working, my network card was properly detected as per ifconfig eth0, what am I missing here.
During the boot I noticed an error line saying that the hostname should be setup in /etc/hostname....
Completely lost here. Any idea?
Thanks. _________________ william |

It needs to download the xfree source tarball. Ofcourse you can just download the source and move it to /usr/portage/disfiles manually..that should stop it from trying to go online. You can also try to get the binary package from the packages CD. Then use the -K flag I believe to have portage install using the grp package.
Hope that helps.

The universal livecd should have X as a precompiled package. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

For assistance with getting networking setup correctly, see the Networking & Security forum.
