Hello all,

I am writing concerning using iptables to secure a server running at a dedicated server provider. The dedicated server will be hosting multiple websites and I was wanting more information about securing it using iptables, since they said I have to provide my own security.

I can secure my own networks, with switches, firewalls etc, however I do not have this option using other equipment since all I get is the server in their rack.

Most of the information I have seen is targeted at using iptables as a dedicated router/firewall using dual nics, or dmz etc. where I would just like for it to act like Zonealarm or BlackIce essentilly only allowing traffic on the necessary ports for the site to function.

I have experience with pix firewalls so I understand configuring firewalls, I am just not sure how to do it with iptables and if it will work in the manner in which i require.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
