upgrading to linux-2.6.7

i'm trying to upgrade from 2.4.20 kernel to the 2.6.7 kernel..the problem is, i can't get my network card, video card (can't start x) and sound card to work because it says that i don't have their modules. i had the" QM_MODULES" error before, but i emerge'ed modutils and module-init-tools, and the error went away..but when i try to compile dmfe.c, i get a long string of errors and i don't get my dmfe.o.. i can't use anything while running my 2.6.7 kernel..can anyone help? thanks in advance..

I had similar troubles... I unmerged modutils, then merged module-init-tools.
I had been running on 2.6 since 2.6.3 but did not run into this issue until I switched to 2.6.7.

On second thought... maybe you do not want to do that. As I guess umergeing modutils will b0rk your 2.4 kernel since you are compiling your network support as a module.

I have my network card support in the kernel not as a module so I could still access the network without the modutils.
