Hi all,

When I start cupsd, it stops responding to anything after the first few seconds. i.e. it keeps the browser waiting when i try to access it's web-interface, kprinter hangs. Any help.

/etc/hosts looks like
Code:
127.0.0.1   localhost.localdomain localhost nachi
128.2.13.176   linux.andrew.cmu.edu cmu

/etc/cupsd.conf and /etc/client.conf have
Code:

ServerName localhost.localdomain

i have cups-1.1.20-r1 installed. any help?

Hello,
Do you have Kernel > 2.6.6? If so, I do have the same problem. I have tracked the whole thing down to parallelport driver. If it is not compiled, then CUPS starts without problem. Kernel 2.6.5 and less does not have the parallelport problem.

i am using 2.6.7-gentoo-r9. I tried disabling parallel port support, still the same problem. Any other idea? In my case .. cupsd starts, but, it just doesn't respond to anything after couple of seconds of starting.

Try this:

In /etc/hosts:
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost

In /etc/cups/cups.conf:
Code:
ServerName localhost

/etc/cups/client.conf is only needed when a linux client needs to access a cups printer on a different machine. But I suggest making this change:
Code:
ServerName localhost

Keep it simple. CUPS administration works right out of the box. HTH

Is this a parallel or USB printer? This has not yet been established on this thread.

If a parallel printer, try dropping down to a 2.6.6. kernel at least to verify whether it's the kernel's parallel port driver or not.

I do know for fact that USB printing works fine with a 2.6.7 kernel, at least on my system... But this might be irrelevant..

Does anyone know of a solution? Is it a kernel issue? This bug is persecuting me for months already. It's happening since gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5 probably, I'll test with vanilla-sources.

Any guidance here is very welcome :-). I'm a bit desperate ;-).
