Well Reiser4 doesn't like me. I seem to get lockups on disk intensive applications (emerge, etc.) so since I am going to have to change to another FS, should I go back to resierfs or some other file system? Thanks. |

Hmm...I've only tried ResierFS (3) and ext{2,3}, so I'd have to say ReiserFS. _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

Isn't Reiser4 still in beta?
I use ext3 for everything except /tmp I set for reiserfs. If I could reinstall again, I'd set everything to Reiser, except maybe /boot. |

I think so, but I heard it is getting pretty close to stable. I don't know the truth to that though. I loved the performance on Reiser4. I notice a speed increase, but the lockups were just annoying.
My boot right now is ext2.. I might try to go to a full reiserfs system here shortly. |

i´d stick with reiser4 but add:
Code: | mount |awk '/reiser4/{gsub("/dev/","",$1); system("pgrep "$1"|xargs renice -19")}' >/dev/null | to your start local and to your append line in boot loader config file _________________ Cand nu stii ce sa raspunzi sau ce sa spui un simplu BLA ajunge... lolz |

If it's the 3/26 reiser4 snapshot that causes lockups, try the latest auto-snapshot. If you still experience lockups, I'm sure namesys would like your help tracking down the bug(s) becuase there are currently no known bugs. I think the only reason it hasn't been released is because they're having trouble running Apache on it. Perhaps your instablity is somehow related. |

I am running Apache... Maybe that is it. I will go back to reiser4 and stop apache for a week and see what happens.

the metas/ feature is the new thing in reiser4 that lets you have custom settings for each file/directory (just cd /bin/ls/metas/ and you will understand), so far none really uses it + it breaks glibc compile and apache's permissions (you'd have to chmod 777 all the files you want to show in apache, which is BAD).
you can disable it if you append nopseudo to mount options but that doesnt work on /root so i simply reversed that, it wont show metas/ unless you give it the nopseudo option. _________________ Cand nu stii ce sa raspunzi sau ce sa spui un simplu BLA ajunge... lolz |

Thanks for clearing things up, teutzz.
If you're not going to use reiser4, I would recommend reiserfs for small files and XFS for large files like MP3 collections, movies, etc. |
