I've even looked at the some of the mirrors listed on the main gentoo page and grub is not showing. What to do?

The file emerge system is looking for is grub-0.90.tar.gz

It tries first on the ibiblio.org site and gets a 404 error, file not found. Then it tries at alpha.gnu.org, a mirror, and it also exits with:

No such file 'grub-0.90.tar.gz'

Like I mentioned, looking into the other mirrors listed on the main gentoo page also yields nothing, the package is missing. Is there a way to have emerge system skip the grub install for now and continue with the rest?

Try doing
Code:
emerge rsync
first, and then try to emerge grub again.

*sight*

I already did that before doing emerge system. I did it right after it quit because it could not find the file. Doing emerge rsync is not going to solve it because if I do a emerge -s grub, it tells me what is the latest package version available and such. The problem is that if you try to download it can't find it because the ebuild is not there. Even if I try to download it manually I can't because even in the mirrors listed in the main gentoo page the package is missing.

Maybe someone can actually try to replicate my problem by doing a emerge grub in their system and see if it finds and downloads the ebuild.

I have a similar problem with "truetype.tar.gz". I get the "404 Not Found" error on that one...

... and I tryed "emerge --clean rsync" as well without any luck.

I just did:
Code:
 emerge rsync
emerge search grub
emerge grub -p
emerge grub

And it downloaded and installed the newest version of grub on my box.
I am not sure why you are getting errors even just trying to fetch the file.

Funny you mentioned that...

I grew impatient and aborted my stage1 install since I couldn't get the grub file not found problem resolved. I then proceded to download the stage 3 (since the grub package is in there) file and finished my gentoo installation normally.

Now I want to update portage and for some reason it seems it needs X installed because of some dependency. No problem, but it is quiting now with the same problem I had with Grub, only now the file is the one you mentioned: truetype.tar.gz

I can see this is not an issue with my computer.

I am not sure as to why there are files that portage can't find, you may want to update your version of portage, and maybe put a post up about a bug in the bugs section if that doesn't work.
As for the X dependency, I am not sure, but I installed from stage 1 on my P166 that doesn't have a mouse, and doesn't have any use vars that need X, but it was still compiled in going from stage 2 to 3.
