|
|
I just "finished" my second Gentoo installation and I'm ready to boot up, but apparently my computer is not so inclined.
Grub loads fine, shows my appropriate grub.conf settings, and even shows a nice splashimage (this is the first time I've seen that... nice!). However, it won't load my kernel, and gives the old "Error 15: File not found".
Here is the entry from my grub.conf:
Code: | kernel (hd0,4)/kernel-2.6.7-gentoo-rc9 root=/dev/hda6 |
My /boot:
System.map-2.6.7-gentoo-r9
boot -> .
config-2.6.7-gentoo-r9
grub (directory)
kernel-2.6.7-gentoo-r9
/boot is on hda5, which is an extended partition. I heard on the #gentoo IRC channel on freenode that it is possible to boot from an extended partition, but I want it to be known that I have done no specific steps to make it bootable, if such are necessary.
Also, /boot is a reiserfs partition, but I've never had any problems with that before.
I tried reemerging grub and also separating the (hd0,4) part from my kernel line in my grub.conf, neither of which helped.
Can anyone help to unlock the deep mystery? Or am I just dense?
Thanks in advance! |

is the output that you listed of /boot before or after you mounted the partition? _________________ Come and play in my land |

Geez oh pete! I need more sleep, that's for sure.
Does this ever happen to anyone else?
(Thanks, serkon, for all the help!) |

Try this line
Code: |
kernel (hd0,4)/boot/kernel-2.6.7-gentoo-rc9 root=/dev/hda6
|
Maybe you missed the /boot |

Heh don't feel bad i didn't see that either when I first looked at it... Sometimes sleep can fix a problem as you start over refreshed but try not to if you are working on an idea as you may loose it. At least that is my experience. _________________ Come and play in my land |
