i followed the handbook and emerged ati-drivers after compiling the kernel
im running 2.6.7 with an ati radeon 9600
when i run startx it just starts up with a blank screen and no keys will respond except ctrl alt delete
i used the fglrxconfig to setup my xserver, and have the window manager set to blackbox
when i run X -configure i get these errors
it says i have apm_drv.o unresolved, fglrx_drv.o unresovled and nsc_drv.o unresolved
when i do lsmod it says fglrx is there |

Hello,
Do you connect the monitor though the DVI Interface?
I have a similar problem. If the connection is made though the D-Sub interface, the X shows perfectly. But, if the monitor is connected by the DVI interface, i cant see the X; Only the console (fb) is showed.
If it is the same problem, please, reply this post.
Thanks |

Hi,
I dont solve the problem, but i have discover some things:
I'd tried to runs X by two ways: ATI propietary drivers & DRI compiled on the kernel (i have 2.6.7...there's no xfree-drm for this kernel yet)
If i use the ATI driver, when i start the X server...everything goes black on DVI connection.
If i use the DRI compiled on the kernel, load the modules that are neccesary to runs...the result is the same...All is black.
At this time, the only solution i know is to run X without 3d acceleation and using the vesa drivers.
I hope that somebody could help us to see something through the DVI |

Your XF86Config-4? Post it here - maybe the problem is in it. _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll
