Anyone got Gentoo LiveCD 2004.1 properly booting
IBM Xeon-based Blade eServer?

Anyone managed to install Gentoo on such machine?

I feel your pain - I can get yellow dog installed on the PPC blades, but I cannot for the life of me get gentoo to install on the Xeon blades.

Well, we got away with Redhat eventually.

Btw, I'm convinced now that Redhat is probably a better choice for that hardware than Gentoo because (a) Redhat is supported on that hadrware, (b) RH has all the necessary drivers, because IBM hardware is officially supported by Redhat (and SuSe for that matter).

Gentoo guys need to think about getting into game with big hardware guys like IBM and HP and others if they want to have any considerable market share in business space.

I agree, my RedHat AS blades installed and worked out perfectly, It's just that we are developers and need the machines to be *very* up to date, and that's tricky with RedHat. Gentoo would be an easy way to keep apache/and/resin/etc bleeding edge without having to worry about finding 600 RPMs.

Gentoo devs, please talk to the boys at IBM! I'd love to see the two products work together. I can already visualize the entire bladeserver being full of gentoo boxes.

I will try the hybrid Knoppix install instead and see if that works first, otherwise I may just have to shift over to Red Hat.

I am *this* close to having Gentoo booting on a blade. The only outstanding issue is hte fact that Gentoo's liveCD cannot seem to find the USB CD-ROM that the system uses. I am so happy that it is nearly working, hopefully I can find a way to clue this liveCD into what it is booting on, if I can mount the CD then I am good to go.

This is with Blade BIOS 1.03, 1.04, 1.06 and 1.08 (I have tried them all).
