No kernel .config specified?

First off, I'm a linux newbie. I installing from the CD's using the 2.6 kernel and everything has been going smoothly until I run "genkernel all". (I should note that I'm using the installation guide on the website.

I get a couple errors that say:

grep: /usr/src/linux/Makefile: No such file or directory
ERROR: Error: No kernel .config specified, or file not found.

ls -l /usr/src/linux shows:

lrwxr-xr-x 1 root root 19 Jul 9 06:21 /usr/src/linux -> linux-2.4.25-gentoo

I'm lost and I have no idea what I could have possibly done wrong. I've followed the instructions step by step, word for word and everything ran fine up until this point. I tried searching for this error and couldn't find anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
