Ok, I've got CUPS up and working, at least as root. The problem that I have is when I go and try and print as any other user besides root on the local machine, it doesn;t work.

I'm pretty sure this is some sort of access restriction, but I didn't see any group in the /etc/group file that mentions printing or CUPS.

Is there perhaps some setting in /ect/cupsd/cupsd.conf that I'm missing that says which users can print and which can not?

Help!
Paul

Are you printing from the command line? What message(s) does it give? Maybe do a echo "test" | lp and then an lpstat -t. That may yield some info...

switched user and I get the same results, so it appears to be working. However, when I fire up the Printing Manager under Peripherals, I get an error that says

Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message recieved from manager:

Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: connection refused.

But one thing thats different is that under the part in the Print Manager where is says "Print system currently used" and its set to CUPS, it says connected to adrastea...... which is not the local computer. I've looked through the client and cupsd config files and I can;t find mention of this PC anywhere, but I do remember entering it in at some point.

How do I tell CUPS to look at the local system?

OK, Problem fixed!

After searching and searching, it ended up being under the Print Manager -> Print Manager (menu) -> Configure Manager -> CUPS Server on the left side. Then I put in localhost in instead of the other computer.

and behold, I can now see and print ot the printers!

Now I'm just making sure they print ok.

Thanks for suggestions,
Paul
