I switched to 2.6.7 a while ago, and have been happy with it, aside from one small annoyance which has now become a problem. When I start up a system using the 2.6.7 kernel, The screen is blank with the underscore cursor at the bottom of the screen (which can be moved by typing stuff). It is loading the kernel though. About half way through it (I think around where it initializes the sound), I can see the screen and what is going on. I've used this kernel on two different computers, and they both do it. It makes it impossible to know when fsck is being run on startup, and on a machine with a new install on it, I cannot determine why it isn't booting with that. Anyone have any ideas as to how to get rid of this problem? BTW, I compiled and installed them by hand, using the same settings from 2.6.6 for the main one.

Are you using framebuffer? Try disabling it (or setting other drivers).

Thanks. I tried it, and it worked. Now let's hope that doesn't mess anything else up.

Well, you can enable the framebuffer and select the only driver - vesafb compiled into the kernel (NOT as module) - you'll still have a nice fb console
