hello world !

anyway the kernel can not boot with /dev/hda5 as my root partition :-(

i have installed gentoo and a kernel (incl every filesystem support and automount) on dev/hda5! i always mounted dev/hda5 and so this must be right, i think!

fdisk says:
...

Quote:
Device Boot Start End Blocks ID System
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 * 1 1 7689 61761861 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part2 * 7690 8547 6891856+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 * 8548 9729 9494415 7 W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part4 * 8548 9593 8401963+ 7 Linux
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part5 * 9594 9729 1092388+ 7 Linux Swap

now, at the moment, when the kernel has to use the root dev, it fails and tells me, i should start fsck manually because it was unable to repair my root partition.
but fsck /dev/hda5 checks the hdd part and does not tell me anything about an error or sth like that!

so, whats going on with it ?

thank you for helping!

Quote:
the filesystem file (according to the superblock) is 2100498 blocks.
the physical size is of the device is 2100490 blocks.
either the superblock or the partition table is likely to be corrupt!

linux: unexpected inconsistency; run fsck manually.
(i.e., without -a or -p options)
* filesystem couldn't be fixed

give root password to maintenance .......

Any luck? I'm searching here for the same problem. I'm pretty sure my superblock is incorrect and I'd like to figure out how to fix it so I don't get this annoying error during boot.

Edit - Nevermind, I found a fix here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1363289#1363289
