Hi,

it never really bothered my, but now its time to solve this problem.
I'm using the gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r8 and the fan is running way too long and often compared to windows, which is also running on the notebook.

Its an Asus Notebook, therefore I did install the asus-extras along with this kernel.

Unfortunally I don't have any idea where to start solving the problem. :(

You could activate cpufreq in your kernel to cool down the cpu.
Then you can use a program like cpudyn to slow down the cpu in time of inactivity.

I did not really change any settings. The default settings work just perfect, but you might want to take a look at the disc options. Also be sure to enable all the stuff in the kernel needed by cpydyn.
