I'd really like to use 2.4 headers only because the devs for my raid card have finally made a patch for the 2.6 kernel, however it was using 2.4 headers. It took a while for them to make a patch for the 2.6 kernel anyways so I guess I'll roll with it for the time being. Since Im getting ready to do a clean install.
The real reason I want 2.6 headers is because I've heard it two ways:
"you can and you can't get nptl with 2.4 headers"
there are numerous posts on the forums that suggest both. Does anyone know a definate answer? What are some serious benefits Ill lack by using 2.4 headers?
is there a definate answer?
on a side note, how hard is it to port a patch for 2.6kernel/2.4headers to a patch that works for 2.6kernel/2.6headers? _________________ Thunder k8w, 2 Opteron 244s, 2GB Corsair, Audigy 2 Platinum eX, 6800 GT OC, 3Ware 9500S-4LP |

AFAIK you can't use NPTL with 2.4 headers... only with 2.6. |

Header files are only used when compiling i.e. you will need 2.6 headers to compile glibc with nptl, but not to run it. So you could downgrade your headers, install your raid driver and then reemerge you 2.6 headers (or the other way around). |
