All:
Did
mkraid /dev/md4
mke2fs -j /dev/md4
Now when I do
e2fsck -f /dev/md4
I am told the superblock is corrupted. What do I do? Thank you for your assistance.

P.S.: Want to clarify that RAID array created with 2 partitions that already had ext3 filesystems on them, if that matters. I am adding software RAID to an existing installation, trying not to loose any data in the process. |

First of all, what is your kernel, is raid compiled as modules or builtin, what does the /proc/mdstat say? maybe it is synching and don't let you fscheck. _________________ Nous autres, mordus d'informatique, préférons par-dessus tout passer notre temps à bidouiller nos ordinateurs, plutôt que les utiliser pour faire quelque chose de productif. The kernel is vanilla with raid compiled in and modules md and raid1 loaded. Too late to check /proc/mdstat during syncing but I refer you to
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=5653
steps 7 and 8 to support the claim that e2fsck is valid during syncing. Same result when syncing is finished, though.
