If one thing struck me the first time I visited this website, it was the beautifull EXISTING design of it.
Wonderfull colours, great functionality and logic in applying them (soft green, soft purple ... each time connected to certain meaning in the text)
You rarely find websites which are so well structured, so stylish, so friendly to the eye.
A contest for a new disign to me seems useless.
Don't forget a basic rule in business: never change something that is perfect!

another rule might be that there is always room for improvement. |

the current design is quite old
True, compared to most other Linux websites (and FreeBSD) it DOES look good, but all those sites look especially plain.
I get the impression that the website guys want to reorganize the backend, so seeing if a better design comes up would only seem natural. The contest guidelines state that if no better design is submitted, they'll just stick with the current.
Voting by 5 developers and then the public - don't worry, it'll all be good. |
