i can emerge nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx but when i go to modprobe nvidia it just sits there if i dmesg i get

You are running a 2.6.X series kernel and the module is in the 2.4 format... There appears to be a nvidia.o module, instead of the nvidia.ko module that is being loaded... Try delleting the nvidia.o module and ensuring that there is a nvidia.ko module present, then try to modprobe nvidia and see if it loads correctly... _________________ All reality is the construct of the observer.
