has anyone seen those really small targus optical mice with retractable cords? i bought one and it has worked great on my window's pc and my laptop when i had xp on it. however i rolled over to linux for many reasons. but currently i cant use it. when i plug it in the synaptics touchpad freaks out and wont work as a pointer but just jumps randomly and clicks on everything. i tried booting with it plugged in however that has yielded the same results. i'm going out for a while so if you have suggestions please send me a private message or preferably email me at oracleofmist@gmx.net thank you very much in advance

p.s. i would use a ps\2 mouse but the external ps\2 port does not work right for some reason despite the mobo being replaced.

oracleofmist,

You need to set up X two use either or both pointing devices seperately. By defualt you will be using /dev/psaux for both which makes a mess if they need different protocols.

man XF86Config explains what you need to do.

I assume you already have a working USB subsystem, if not, fix that first.
