Hi
I have IBM T23 , and I'm try to install the gentoo 2004.1
If I boot with the "gentoo" kernel, no network card is found. if I boot with "smp" kernel, it found eepro100.

After the detection the network work ok and im able to connect to www.gentoo.org (to read the manual).
but when I'm try to
Code:
emerge sync
it start download the files and in the middle it start write: eth0: wait_for_cmd_done timeout!
Ater that happend i can not connect nowhere...

I tried to use the "gentoo" kernel and load the eepro100 module, and the result are the same.

The network card it self woking ok in windows.

I did
Code:
cat /etc/sysconfig/netcard
and i got the card's driver should be e100 which not found.
I also run the Mandrake Live CD and it use the e100 driver.

any ideas ?

thanks.

The 2004.1 LiveCD has some issues with network card detection. Mandrake is correct in using the e100 module for the T23. Try issuing a
Code:
modprobe e100
and then run
Code:
net-setup eth0
.

EDIT: oops, just checked, there is no e100 module on the standard liveCD. I use this LiveCD, which does include the e100 module.

I googled around for: eth0: wait_for_cmd_done timeout!

Apparently, you arn't the only one that has encountered this problem. I think you need to stick to the e100 module. One person said that worked for him. Use the LiveCD tomchuk recommended and load up the e100 module.

I downloaded it, and it recognize the card and use module e100, but it working very very slow (less that 3k).
when i use other live CD or windows it work as it should (about 100k)

so i guess it's the module problem, and not network problem or the hardware.

any ideas?

Make sure you run mirrorselect (it's somewhere in the Gentoo Handbook). It will choose the fastest ftp to download from.

it not that, the same site that work fine with other liveCD (or windows) wokd slow.
even if i use the eepro100 module its work faster (until the problems begins....)
so I stuck in the middle - one module work slow, and the other with problems...
