|
|
Alright, I use KMail, I've had linux running for some time now. I'm pretty sure I don't have a virus, as I'm not sure how that could have happened.
Anyway, I'm getting mails back from "postmaster" at various places, as if I sent an email, and it was undeliverable.
Can I somehow check to see if this is just a spoof mail, or if my computer actually did try to send email, and it did indeed get bounced back.
Each email says:
Code: |
<HTML><HEAD></HEAD><BODY>
<FONT>The following mail can't be sent to SOMEONE I DONT KNOW IS HERE:<br>
<br>
From: MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS HERE<br>
To: SOMEONE I DONT KNOW IS HERE<br>
Subject: Terms of Use<br>
The attachment is the original mail</FONT></BODY></HTML>
Tvdez.pif
Attachment: 2
blank
|
The *.pif attachment appears to be executable code, if I open it in KAte. |

it is possible that its a virus running on someone elses computer sending mail with your email address entered as the sender. this has happened to me by friends with my email address in their virus infected windows address book.
check over all the headers in the emails. i was able to determine by ip who exactly was sending the email in the first place. it may not pin point it exactly, but should at least verify its not your system sending the mail.
and if it turns out to be somone you know, go fix their problem by installing gentoo
otherwise you're out of luck because anyone can send email with your address as the From: (and in this case, have it bounce back to you, which is a good thing)
hope this helps a bit _________________ magoo |
