Posted: Fri Jul 16, 2004 11:48 pm Post subject: Emerged new xorg and X keeps Restaring [SOLVED] |
|
|
I emerged the new X.org and everytime i open a program or do anything with GNOME or KDE it keeps restarting itself. I am writing u this from 'failsafe'. I tried emerging r1 but nothing has changed. Please help me with this.
EDIT: I am using nvidia-glx (try reemerging) and nvidia open-gl, gcc 3.4.1, kernel-headers-2.6.6-r1, glibc 2.3.4 and kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r11.
EDIT1:This seems to be an 'nvidia-glx' problem because using 'nv' is ok but i cant play any games.
Thanks in Advance _________________ Registered Linux User #360735.

What happens if you just use the "nv" driver (rather than the "nvidia" one) that comes with X.org? _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

Tried doing "emerge -c nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel" and "emerge nvidia-glx" but that wont help. It must be a config file or something. _________________ Registered Linux User #360735. |

actually, I can't even build it and I'm using the same tool chain as you. It spits a lot of errors out at me like "FontSample.c:512: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type". The occasional undeclared variable but I'm assuming that is because of the dereferencing pointer. |

Well, to try and solve my problem I'm going to try emergeing lesstif. It looks like that is what has Xm. Why don't you try that as well? Or reemerging it. Just a shot in the dark but it could work.
Edit:
doesn't look like it worked...
Edit:
Ok, so it did work, I just had to make sym links from /usr/X11R6/include/lesstif/<directories in here> down a level to /usr/X11R6/include. Well, it looks like it works for the compile, not sure of the stability. |

I get those same FontSample.c errors.
Any idea what's causing it? _________________ Peace love and penguins |

Emerge openmotif first, then emerge xorg-x11. Then you won't get those Fontspace errors... _________________ Belgian MoOo Farm Founder & President |

This might be a clue, i did 'cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status" and this is what i got:
Status: Disabled
AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput
of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file
for additional information on this setup problem. _________________ Registered Linux User #360735. |

It seems that everytime i try to open a new window it crashes, but only with the 'nvidia' module with 'nv' its ok. _________________ Registered Linux User #360735. |
