I currently have a laptop with an integrated pris54(the chipset is not at fault here) based wireless G card. The range on that thing is worth shit. I can't go more than 10 m without loosing the signal. I can't even connect to my school wireless lan. ( Now I know why it was free). So my question is: what would be the best most supported wireless G card?

I don't know much about wireless cards (as I've only owned one so far), but for a wireless-G card, I really love my Linksys WPC54G card. Up 'til about a few months ago, it wasn't supported by ndiswrapper (which is free) as opposed to linuxant (which isn't), but now that it is, it is very easy to install and configure, and I get 54Mb/s bit rate with my 54Mb/s Netgear router. I used it on my campus over its Cisco VPN, and had no problems with connecting and keeping a signal.
The only problem I can see (from reading various posts on message boards...try Googling "Linksys WPC54G" is that Linksys is not cooperative in supporting Linux for this card. However, the ndiswrapper takes care of things just fine for home/school. |
