see the network in gnome

Hey, how are you? i have just installed gnome 2.6 in gentoo. Everything went fine, but when i go to network i dont see the computers in my network. I didnt have this problem when i installed gnome 2.6 in debian, and i dont know what the problem might be. Which is the file where i have to say my network name? what other files should i edit to see the computers on my network? do i have to install something? i can ping the other computers. thanks
