Safe to unmerge ssmtp, have no MTAs running?

I have eight boxes that are set up to do some specialized video encoding. That's all they do. The last couple of nights, they have been attempting to send out mail when cron jobs run. I do not want this. I do not want these boxes to send or receive any mail whatsoever.

I want no MTAs on these boxes. Is it safe to unmerge ssmtp and be done with this problem, or is doing so going to bork something else?

Yes it is safe to do it. I removed mine without any problem

Cron won't be happy, but afaik it will still work, just fuill your logs with complaints about not being able to send mail.
