In the absence of any 'official word' I thought I'd share some of the little things I've found/tried.
KERNEL
Firstly there is a very good xbox-source 2.6.7r3 in portage that is currently running on a couple of my xboxes.
The only small problem I've had is that it borks when you shutdown the xbox ... and fatx access is a little unstable.
Some module names have changes from the 2.4 kernel, but the new modules work fine.
You'll need version 2.31 of the cromwell bios
in order that it supports the larger 2.6.7 kernel.
PROFILE
XBox profile here -> /usr/portage/profile/xbox-x86-2004.0
ALSA
edit: Tried 250704 and alsa 1.0.5a works a treat
Well the modules load without error; I just need to get the cable fixed up! Good work Chris B!

An ebuild here, although the latest alsa looks like it needs some more tweaks to work [edit: appears to work now! give it a try].

XFREE
An ebuild developing here ->
LIVECD
An empty reference maybe its coming?
I've created a general livecd with catalyst (although some apps aren't building in the latest rsync) OR build a stage 3 with catalyst, and load that to the partition on the xbox; I've tested that, and it works fine too, using portage snapshot 230704.
Still trying to get the iso to boot on the xbox with the initrd built from catalyst.
Maybe others can try, and give some feedback?!
Alternatively you can use the Xebian boot iso, and install gentoo directly from there ... Like I'm doing now, with ext3 file system, and the stage3 tarball built from catalyst works very well!
STAGE 4
Now I've got a working gentoo from scratch with ext3 and alsa, I'm going to follow this howto;
So that I can mirror the working setup on the other boxes, very quickly!
Its not much, but its what I found so far
