I did a fresh gentoo install, with
gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.4 and
xorg-x11
This is what i get when i try to play a wav file

TO SOLVE THIS nhat I did was removed the card from its pci slot and change it around (not sure how much this helped) and then

and start the driver manually after x

to the letter
I installed gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.4 but this didn't work out any better than 2.6.7
it should be noted that i installed jack-audio-connection-kit before alsa was fully working, and i messed around with the alsa ebuilds like it says in the outdated jack howto, but ive since unmerged jack and resynced portage

I installed 2.6.4 and things are getting wierd
if i aplay a wav RIGHT after i login on tthe text console, it plays, but when I startx alsa stops working and this happens when i restart alsasound:

| I had the exact same thing happen to me. I purchased an SB Live for the single reason that it's incredibly popular; my old card didn't even have real drivers anymore as the company went out of business some years ago. Needless to say I was astounded that it didn't work out of the box. I struggled with it for a few hours, and then it magically worked. I say magically because I really have no idea what made it work. Start ALSA, nothing. Tweak the volume, nothing. Restart ALSA, nothing. Unmute all the channels (horrible idea, don't do it), nothing usable. Restart ALSA, nothing. This continued for some time until suddenly we got 'Restart ALSA, perfect sound from both digital and line out.' *shrug* Beats the heck out of me what I did. I'd be more than happy to post any configs I may have. Just tell me what you'd like to see and I'll post them here. Hope everything works out. |
