When I "emerge --pretend --update system" to check for any upgrade needed for system packages, I'm surprised that some packages to be upgraded belong to net-misc in the portage tree. I always think that system packages are sys-apps, sys-libs .... So, is there any file in the portage tree showing the list of packages belong to system packages? |

Not that I'm aware of. To my knowledge, the only relevant emerge options are system and world.

Take a peek at your /etc/make.profile/packages file, there is a short blurb on the top explaining the contents. _________________ - Kyle Manna
