|

Hello,
I need some addvice on kernel compiling, before I do something dumb. First let me specify my machine: Celeron 2700, 512M Ram, GeForce 2, Sound Blaster Live!. Ethernet card is integreated on board and is a Realtek 8139 series.
So which modules should I emerge? I will want the nvidia-kernel and emu10k1. Are there any other modules I need? With LiveCD I had to load 8139too module to get my eth0 working, so do I need to emerge it too?

Yes.
The way I determined which modules to install was simply by looking at what modules were loaded with the LiveCD and compiling those same modules.
EDIT: If the LiveCD does not seem to detect all your hardware, you can also try booting with Knoppix and seeing which modules it loads up. |

I believe u need to enable it as a module in your kernel then modprobe it rather than emerge it. _________________ Athlon64 3000+ on a MSI Neo2 Platinum (nVidia nForce3)

Thanks guys. I've got Knoppix and I really don't know how to check which modules are loaded. Can anyone please tell me?
One more thing, if I may. I've got one of those PCI ATA133 controller cards in my PC; Silicon Image Sil0608. I know it is supported by Linux kernel as knoppix ( and all other distributions ) recognised it successfully. So where do you enable support for it? I suppose when setting up the kernel, so what should I enable when I'll be configuring the kernel?

Will tell you what modules you have loaded.
In the 2.6 kernel it's in Device Drivers-->ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support -->Silicon Image Chipset Support
Best of luck, and I'd imagine that the ATA controller has to be in the kernel(*) not as a module(M) _________________ This space for rent... Well maybe to give away.. Heck.. i'll pay you to take it.
