I emerged / downloaded the latest Steam client for Linux, and I got it to run OK - it grabbed the rest of the files and put them in the appropriate subdirectories.
However, when I try to run hlds_run, I get the following:
Code: |
bash-2.05b# cd /opt/valve
bash-2.05b# ./hlds_run
Auto detecting CPU
Using Pentium II Optimised binary.
Auto-restarting the server on crash
Console initialized.
scandir failed:/opt/valve/./platform/SAVE
Protocol version 47
Exe version 1.1.2.0/Stdio (valve)
Exe build: 02:38:31 Jul 7 2004 (2738)
STEAM Auth Server

Completed downloading Security Module from Speakeasy.net
Server is in Secure Mode.
couldn't exec listip.cfg
couldn't exec banned.cfg
(It hangs, and I need to hit Ctrl+C at this point)

I'm guessing the part "/opt/valve/./platform/SAVE" has something to do with it, but I don't know what I am mising.
Any idea how to get this puppy running? I have a WinXP boxen with Steam on it, it can't find the server on the LAN or when I point to it as a favorite.
Thank you! _________________ Geoffrey J. Schaller

Hmm, it looks fine to me. the scandir isnt what's not initializing the server because i get it too when i start my server. what game are you trying to run? if your trying to run cs, make sure you have downloaded the cstrike game using steam on ur server and then start it like so:
Code: | ./hlds_run -game cstrike +map de+dust -maxplayers 20 |

Excellent! Thank you! It took me a moment to notice the "de+dust" should have been "de_dust" - but I caught it.
For a complete n00b, is there a good site or document that has full documentation on how to run the Steam Server on Linux? I'd like to get into this so I can host LAN parties, but I'm stumped where to start. (Flags, options, selecting maps, admin. the server during play, etc.) _________________ Geoffrey J. Schaller
