Hey all,
Here's a weird one...I've got the alsa driver compiled and working just fine. I tried playing a test .wav file with asound from the command line, and that worked just fine. But for some reason, I can't play any sounds in KDE3. Any ideas? |

Maybe you have to put the volume up in KDE? Serious, fire up KMix and see if you master volume is on and up. Mine wasn't at first. Don't forget to save your settings as default afterwards. |

Kmix didn't even contain any volume settings. When I open kmix, i just get a blank box. |

Have you tried this from the installation guide?:
Note: If kmix cannot find a mixer, then it probably thinks you don't have sound support. Log out and remove ~/.kde/share/config/kmixrc and ~/.kde/share/config/kmix:* then log in again. This time it should find the sound mixer properly. |

ok this is weird...when i log into kde as root, i can play sounds just fine. However, when I use a non-root user, it won't play sounds at all. Any idea how to fix that? |

Aha, you have got to make the users part of the group 'sound'. It is in the installation guide, but it's a bit hidden. |

Actually it's group 'audio':
Note: Notice that devfsd.conf sets /dev/sound permissions to be root.audio. Thus, for non-root users to use audio they will have to be part of the audio group. |
