|
|
I'm just a home user and havent made any backups -- oops. Anyway the drive that had /var on it died.
Can I simply emerge system?
I have installed a new drive -- partitioned -- made files systems -- updated fstab. I would kind of like to re-emerge my proggies and keep my config files as they are (I cant even remember where they are all at lol)
The system gives a few complaits when starting hehe, but other than that I am able to do most things.
The email and web server are toast -- and anything that needs to log craps out.
Amazingly stable linux!!! -- it still boots
Before I type "emerge system" then "emerge world" is there anything else I should know? or is this the totally wrong approch?
Please if you have any thoughts please speak up-- my wifes resume is on the server |

I'm affraid it won't work, since emerge also uses stuff located in /var. Anyway, if you want to give it a shot, the appropriate command would be :
Or maybe world instead of system. |

I believe the world file is in /var...
You'll have to extract the "system" file from a livecd or something. It's somewhere in /var/db/pkg _________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. |
