hi there.
i've got some weird grub problem.
i've got both gentoo and windows 2000 on my notebook.
grub is configured to let me choose :

Code:

title=Windows 2000
root (hd0,0)
chainloader+1
boot

( only windows part, gentoo runs flawless )

but if i choose to boot win from the list, i allways
receive an error message, like
'you have to choose the kernel you want to boot first.'

when i edit the boot lines in grubs startup screen,
i see that there is no 'chainloader+1' no more,
when i then add this line manually then, and then
try to boot it, it works ?

I don't know if this is your problem, but my grub.conf says
Code:
# Windows XP
title Windows XP
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
chainloader  +1

note the space after chainloader in addition to the other differences.

Yes, u need the "rootnoverify (hd0,1)" if your windows reside on your first partition.

actually you need rootnoverify (hd0,0) if its your first partition, (hd0,1) is for your second partition on first hard drive

rootnoverify is only needed for windows XP.

but, all to do to solve my problem was to
put a blank between chainloader and +1 ...

maaah, i could have solved that one on my own. ;]
