|
|
I am having a problem with compiling the gentoo kernel.
Or rather with compiling the modules properly. I have selected ip_tables as a module and i2cproc support as modules using make menuconfig but when I compile the kernel (make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules install), copy the bzImage file and reboot, modprobe cannot find the i2c modules or the ip_tables module. i have done make mrproper but that did not help, I think I have found the problem but I am not sure how to proceed. under /usr/src I have linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r7 and linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r9
usr/src/linux was pointing to linux-2.4.19-gentoo-r7 i changed it to point to the r9 but that didnt help.
In /lib/modules i also have the same 2 entries. Under the r9 in misc i see the i2c modules modprobe cant find. under r7 are many other modules. what do i need to do to reconcile everything using r9 ? |

Make sure the /usr/src/linux symlink is pointing to the r9 sources, and then recompile the kernel and the modules. You have two choices for configuration: either start with the defaults in r9, or copy your r7 .config over, run make oldconfig once, and then make menuconfig. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
