adding suspend2 was never seen as being something other than a good
idea - it's just that the current suspend2 patches are for 2.6.7 kernels;
since quite a bit has changed since then, it's difficult to get it working.

we got it to compile, but since it locked up the system when testing, it was
of no use.

Hey,

Just wondering if it would be possible to include the badram patch. Its small, and shouldn't cause any trouble. Besides that I really need it

If not I can always patch it myself but its nice to just say emerge and be done with it.

Three cheers for 2.6.8-rc2-love3 - the "Rabid Orange Flamingo" is the best 2.6 series kernel I've had the pleasure of playing with on this nforce2 based system

Is anyone getting a kernel null pointer dereference oops in the page-fault handler when using 4K stacks (default for this kernel)? I get this on both of two machines I set up yesterday, running root reiser4 with 4K stacks. The oops occurs either during a make on a package or during a kernel compile. I reverted to 8K stacks on one of the machines and the instability seems to have gone away. I pass rootflags=nopseudo from grub and use the renice script published in this thread (in local.start).

This is my first time using 4K stacks, so I was wondering if this is a documented problem.

not me, but unless the system is a high-traffic server, you won't need 4k stacks.

I had the issue when trying to use reiser4 on the root partition. Whenever something cpu intensive was running it would occour, I also tried renicing and it made no difference. I was able to fix it by playing with some kernel options but then I got different errors or just hardlocks. Its a reiser4 related problem since I copied the install to a reiserfs partition and it worked fine.

May I ask why 4K stacks are default on this kernel? Left over from the patch containing it?

Neenee, seems like a lot of people have problems with root reiser4, but you must be constantly upgrading love-sources kernels and never seem to have any problems. Do you split /usr onto a different partition? How do you achieve such flawless stability with root reiser4 and your kernels? Any tips on kernel configs that you use?

i see... so has reiser4 experienced a regression in stability over the course of the last few months, or have you just given up on it until it becomes more stable?

You might be aware of the lastest version of Yoper running reiser4 out of the box. It would be interesting to find out what kernel patches, boot flags, and other scripts they use to make their distro stable with reiser4... or check their forums for similar problems as we have even with love-sources.

However, I would agree that reiser4 is very noticeably faster than any filesystem I've used, and that stabilizing reiser4 should be a primary concern for the FOSS comunity. It's a good thing we have until 2008 now to add mySQL query plugins to reiser4, and blow WinFS out of the water.

I just found this out from reading the xx-sources thread: Starting around 7/22, the newest reiser4 snapshots became more sensitive to priority, and therefore renicing reiser4 processes as we've been doing causes system lockups like the one I've been having with this love-sources version.

SO STOP RENICING REISER4!!

the usb stuff seems a lot more stable.. no connection dropouts as with 2.6.7-*

unfortunately nvidias agp still crashes X

Turn off 'Do an extra kallsyms pass' in the .config before compiling the kernel, you only need this options compiled in if you are having trouble with kallsyms.

As for why you would disable it - because it's probably the cause of your kernel not compiling.

As for how to disable it - don't have it selected when you configure the kernel.

e.g. in general setup, select the Configure standard kernel features, and then ensure the kallsyms part is not selected (i.e. make sure 'Load all symbols for debugging/kksymoops' is note selected).

At least, that's what I do.

A quick search on google gave me plenty on info on kallsysms, but there is too much to paste into this post.

As I said before, if removing the kallsyms from the config doesn't solve the kallsyms problem on compile, then I'm afraid I have no idea.
