This is more an info post than anything else,
I had been unable to get my Aureal au8830 working under any of the gentoo-dev-sources kernels with either Alsa in the kernel source or Alsa in portage. The module would load but no hardware was found, amixer didn't work etc & was stuck using my onboard crappy CMI chipset.
Well anyway I came across something that hinted that the problem was the Gentoo patches to the kernel, so I compiled a kernel from development-sources (2.6.8 p2) and the sound card works correctly.
I don't know how far back this issue goes, but it's been around a few months at least, so i'm making an assumption that something in the Gentoo patches breaks au88x0 support. |

I have problems with au8830 and 2.6 kernel too. When alsa is compiled into the kernel my computer hangs very often. When alsa is not in kernel, I just lose sound (then I have to restart or reload alsa module however it doesn't work ok under 2.6.9) _________________ Pozdrawiam - Kacper Cie¶la (comboy);
