Devo installare ad un mio amico la gentoo...
Ma Ho il livecd della 2004.1...Volevo passare alla 2004.2 ma non ho il tempo di scaricarla...
Ho vistro nel portage in '/usr/portage/profiles/default-x86-2004.2' che ci sono i file di 'configurazione' della 2004.2 se copio quelli in '/etc/make.profile' posso dire di essere gia' passato al profilo 2004.2 e quindi poter passare senza problemi ad xorg e altre cose ???

Da quello che so la directory profile contiene le informazioni necessarie al bootstrap, all'emerge system e ai GRP (come si vede dal file make.defaults)
Il mio consiglio é quello di lasciare cosi, bootstrappi, emerge system, poi dai l'emerge sync e sei a posto. Credo che cambiando il profile non succeda niente di interessante (a parte qualche probabile casino)
Aggiungo che per passare a xorg e altre cose questi non centrano nulla, come saprai in gentoo sei tu che decidi quello che vuoi.

Una cosa che non ho ancora capito bene...
Nel mio /etc/make.profile/virtuals
ci sono varie voci riferite a python, kernel, glibc ecc...
Cosa sono questi ???
Poi... nel mio /etc/make.profiles/virtuals c'e' ancora x11-base/xfree mentre in quello della 2004.2 e' stato sostituito da xorg-x11 quindi penso che cambi qualcosa o no ???

Cambia solo se tu dai:
quindi emerge quanda nel file virtuals quale emergere.
EDIT:
Comunque hai ragione, credo che se tu dai per esempio, emerge kde, allora lui vuole emergerti automaticamente quello presente in virtuals e quindi xfree invece che xorg. non ci avevo pensato.
