Can anybody tell be if the Gentoo 2004.0 minimal install image has NFS support? (it seems to be missing from 2004.1 for some stupid reason)
Why would anybody remove NFS support in the first place? Doesn't common sense tell us that during install is when we need the *most* flexibility from Gentoo, to access existing distfiles and portage archives???
I have just spent 8 hours trying to get Gentoo to pre-bootstrap stage on a new box (I have installed Gentoo at least a dozen times before on various hardware and have never seen so may problems as I have today) :-(
I have tried using 1.4 2004.2 and 2004.1 boot images. All are unusable for various reasons (1.4 hangs on network card detection/config, 2004.2 doesn't boot(https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=202516), 2004.1 has no NFS support). |

2004.1 has nfs support, but you have to enable it.
Going from memory here so I may not have every exact step.
You need to modprobe sunrpc and nfs to get kernel support. Then do "/etc/init.d/nfsmount start" and you should be good to try to mount. You may not even need to do that last step, can't remember for sure. _________________ Sometimes the appropriate response to reality is to go insane.
