You might wanna get gnutella apps... Lot of them around, check portage (net-p2p) or sourceforge

It's not clear to me how I'm supposed to use bittornado. Is there a good howto around?

open a torrent file in it, and it works... That's basicly it.. I've found that azureus is quite easy to use, don't know about bittornado.

For torrent files, try google or suprnova.org

If you have broadband or better then I would go for Direct Connect. A good DC client is dc-gui. I tend to only use bittorrent at night because it takes up sooo much bandwidth.
