how can i load an ethernet module manually?

i believe it is something along the lines of modprobe xxxx, but i do not know what the xxxx should be.

wat network adapter u using? Didn't the livecd detect the proper module for it?

depends on what kind of card you have

mine uses the tulip drivers so i do:

it is a kingston kne100tx. gentoo detected the eth card, but the problem is that i need to load it manually to eth1. my firewire is automatically assigned eth0, and i do not know how to set it to eth1 instead.

A quick google search yields:

Which tells me your card will work with the tulip drivers. Just add them in as modules and modprobe tulip and BANG! working.
