Hi,
i re-installed a dedicated server from suse to gentoo2004.2 over net, and all works fine, but if i run some of the services i noticed that they need the third of cpu-power then with suse, here some infos:

Code:
Portage 2.0.50-r9 (default-x86-2004.2, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r0, 2.6.7-gentoo-r11)
=================================================================
System uname: 2.6.7-gentoo-r11 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz
Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16
Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r3
Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.3
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86"
AUTOCLEAN="yes"
CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
COMPILER="gcc3"
CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control"
CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d"
CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles"
FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages"
PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp"
PORTDIR="/usr/portage"
PORTDIR_OVERLAY=""
SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
USE="berkdb gdbm ncurses pam pwdb readline x86"

the kernelconfig: http://nopaste.php.cd/23720

i used this tarball: http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo/releases/x86/2004.2/stages/x86/stage1-x86-2004.2.tar.bz2

if you need some more infos, simple write it, i will post them. (no passwords etc, of course)

i thing that the reason is the stage itself, because it isnt the first time, that i updated a server on this way, but i always used 2004.1 where the perfomance was better than with suse.

i hope you can give me some advise.

sorry for my realy bad english :(

yours sincerely, st4n

edit:
forgotten to post the hardware :(

run "top".

That will show which process is using all your processor power
