Here is my output for top:

top - 08:07:18 up 1:31, 1 user, load average: 0.04, 0.13, 0.33
Tasks: 71 total, 1 running, 69 sleeping, 0 stopped, 1 zombie
Cpu(s): 0.9% us, 0.1% sy, 0.0% ni, 98.8% id, 0.0% wa, 0.1% hi, 0.0% s
Mem: 904828k total, 640928k used, 263900k free, 133712k buffers
Swap: 4192956k total, 0k used, 4192956k free, 308016k cached

When I was running Xandros 2.0 just last week, in the same identical hardware, top showed the full 1.5 GB of memory. I am running 2.6.7-r9 on an AMD Dually Athlon MP (MSI K7D L Master MB), and this is my make.conf file:

workstation william # cat /etc/make.conf
# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically built this stage
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example
CFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon-mp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j3"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp:///ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://mirrors.acm.cs.rpi.edu/gentoo/ http://gentoo.osuosl.org/ http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/"
USE="x86 3dnow -acpi alsa -apm arts cdr divx4linux dvd dvdr ftp -gnome -gtk mmx mozilla samba tiff usb xinerama"

workstation william #

Any ideas/suggestions as to why I can only see (and maybe only use) 1GB instead of the full 1.5GB of memory?

William

There's a compile option in your kernel configuration which lets you choose between 1GB, 2GB and 4GB maximum memory size. Can't tell by heart exactly where you find this option in the menu.

Try that as a start.

Cheers

The kernel option is High Mem Support... you have to enable it and set it to 4GB for your 1.5 GB to show up... High Mem Support is located where you set your CPU type...

Hope that helps.. remember compile it in and set it to 4GB..

Viola!!

A little bit delayed on my part to try this - but I re-compiled the kernel with the high memory option (4GB) and it works great !!!

Thanks so much :)
